FALL WORKSHOPS 2008

TWO WORKSHOPS BEGINNING OCTOBER 2008 WITH CAMERON BENNETT:

1. PAINTING BOOTCAMP
Fun and effective exercises for honing your painting skills. Learn to do it the natural way without using crutches like grids, tracing, projecting, etc. Work from observation to develop technique, and the ability to see shape, value, and color.

6 Mondays, 9:30am-12:30pm
Starts October 13, 20, 27 November 3, 10, 17


Materials: Oil paint recommended...no paint thinners or solvents please. You will need lots of canvases for this class. Canvas panels are recommended, not much larger than 12" x 16". Pads of canvas paper are also good. Recommended palette: Titanium White, Cadmium lemon or Cadmium yellow pale, cadmium yellow medium, cadmium red light, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue

COST: $100 for six classes, or $20 to drop-in per class.
Limited to six students!

2. DRAWING and PAINTING THE HEAD FROM LIFE
This is a guided class in drawing and/or painting the head from the live model. Demos, lectures, and guidance at your easel.

6 Saturdays, 1pm-4pm
October 4, 11, 18, 25 November 8, 15

CLASS 1: Short poses
CLASS 2&3: One long pose, different pose each class.
CLASS 4,5, & 6: One sustained pose for three weeks. You may wish to draw in the first class and paint in the others, it's up to you.

Materials: I recommend not working larger than 11x14, and encourage students to try vine charcoal and kneaded eraser if drawing (you may wish to purchase spray fixative also). Bring lots of charcoal paper if drawing, and at least 5 canvas panels or canvas paper.
Recommended oil palette: Titanium White, Cadmium lemon or Cadmium yellow pale, cadmium yellow medium, cadmium red light, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue. Please, due to the studio's small size, do not bring solvents.
COST: $150 for six classes, or $30 to drop-in per class.
Limited to six students!

1. DRAWING BOOTCAMP

  • Fun and effective exercises for honing your drawing skills.
  • Learn to do it the natural way without using crutches like grids, tracing, projecting, etc.
  • 6 Tuesdays, starting January 8, 10am-12:30pm
  • Materials: You will need lots of paper for this class. Any drawing media will do, but vine charcoal and kneaded eraser are especially encouraged. Bring a stack of 8.5x11 white paper with you to get the most out of the exercises.


2. EVENING ART CLINIC

  • Bring in your projects, any medium, for critiques and demonstrations at your easel.
  • If you have no projects, but just want some instruction, I can give you projects in-class to help you along.
  • 6 Tuesdays, starting January 8, 6:30-9pm


3. MORNING ART CLINIC

  • Same as the evening art clinic, but this one's for those of you who are early-risers.
  • 6 Thursdays, starting January 10, 10am-12:30pm


4. LIFE DRAWING CLASS

  • This is a guided class in drawing the figure and head from the live model. Demos, lectures, and guidance at your easel.
  • CLASS 1: Short poses

COST: $100 for six classes, or $20 to drop-in per class. No class cross-over permitted except for Art-clinic classes.

TUESDAYS:
Description: This six week course will focus on painting and drawing people from photographs, a valuable skill for illustrators and portrait painters, and an enjoyable pastime for artists. Students will be encouraged to complete at least one (but not limited to one) finished piece by the end of the session, using any media they prefer. Lectures and demonstrations will be given regulary, as well as individual attention at each student's easel.

Dates of Workshop: 6 Tuesdays, September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9 &,16...6:45-9:15pm
THURSDAYS:
Description Thursday Course
: This six week course will focus on painting and drawing still-lifes in a bold, direct, joyful method, sometimes called "impressionistic". Students will be encouraged to complete at least one (but not limited to one) finished piece by the end of the session, using any media they prefer. Lectures and demonstrations will be given regulary, as well as individual attention at each student's easel. A still-life will be arranged in the studio from which students may paint, or reference photos may be used.
Dates of Workshop: 6 Thursdays, September 13, 27 October 4, 11,18, 25 ...6:45 pm-9:15pm
Materials: Bring your own drawing-board, paper or canvases, and/or reference photographs.
Media especially encouraged at both workshops: oils, charcoal, and pencil, but you may work in any 2-d traditional medium. Chairs and easels provided, but just to be safe, you may wish to bring your own easel.

Location: The Artpad, 3rd Floor, Langer Place, 55 South Commercial Street, Manchester, NH.
Cost: $100 for six weeks, or $20 per class to drop-in. Limited to six artists!
